Storage

The Corporation originally had twenty nine (28) warehouses throughout the state of West Bengal. Out of those warehouses 11 nos. are hired and 17 nos. are own constructed in different Districts including one in Kolkata.
After shifting of administrative control of WBSWC from Public Enterprise Department to Food & Supplies Department (during February 2014) the infrastructure in respect of storage capacity has inflated several times.
Prior to shifting of Administrative control total capacity of WBSWC was 2.12 Lakhs M.T. (approx.). But, at present, the total capacity has been enhanced to 6.64 Lakh M.T. (approx.), i.e., an increase of 4.52 Lakh M.T. (approx.).

The distribution of such enhancement is as follows:-

61 RIDF Godowns: 3.05 Lakh MT
Govt. Food Depots: 1.01 Lakh MT
PEG godowns: 0.3 Lakh MT
Pvt. Hired Godowns: 2.62 Lakh MT
03 RKVY Godowns: 0.07 Lakh MT

In addition to the capacity mentioned above, two godowns under RKVY scheme (one each at Balurghat and Garbeta with 3700 M.T. and 2500 M.T. capacity respectively) are under process of taking over from PWD.
To increase the storage capacity further additional 3 nos. of godowns under RKVY scheme with a total capacity of 9,750 M.T. at Kaliaganj, Tarakeswar and New Jalpaiguri & one PEG godown with 20,000 M.T. capacity at Haldia are now under construction.
