Primary Warehouse
WBSWC has its own warehouses at 29 locations across the state of West Bengal. These godowns are either constructed by WBSWC or are leased on long term basis from private godown owners.
Storage spaces available are both covered and open.
Both the Government and non-Government depositors are provided with storage spaces in these godowns upon availability of the same.
Different types of commodities are allowed to store except explosives and hazardous chemicals. Both food and non food commodities are stored in these warehouses.
As on this date various non food commodities stored in these warehouses include fertilizers, relief materials, paper reels, newsprints, printed books, printing pages, clothes, plastic goods, PVC pipes and fittings, marble floor tiles, electrical goods, packed liquors, icecream etc.
Food commodities stored in these warehouses include procured rice of the Dept. of Food & Supplies, pulses and oilseeds of BENFED, tea etc.
In some warehouses parking spaces are also provided for Government as well as Non-Government vehicles.
Godowns under RKVY scheme:
Several godowns build under Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY) scheme are also located within these warehouse premises at some locations. The godowns build under RKVY scheme are solely provided to the concerned District Controllers, Food & Supplies for the storage of procured rice. At present 03 RKVY godowns with a total capacity of 0.07 lakh MT are under operation within the premises of the Dinhata, Ranaghat and Bankura warehouse.
In addition to the capacity mentioned above, two godowns under RKVY scheme (one each at Balurghat and Garbeta with 3700 M.T. and 2500 M.T. capacity respectively) are under process of taking over from PWD.
Further three godowns under RKVY scheme with a total capacity of 9,750 M.T. at Kaliaganj, Tarakeswar and New Jalpaiguri are under construction at present.
